New Life Rule (NLR)
The New Life Rule (NLR) is a fundamental roleplay rule on GmodPlayground. When your character dies, they begin a new life with no memory of the events that caused their death.
What NLR Means
- You cannot remember who killed you or why.
- You cannot return to the location of your death during an active situation.
- You cannot seek revenge against the person who killed you based on that death.
- You cannot use information from your previous life to act in your new life (e.g. knowing where a drug lab is because you saw it before you died).
NLR cooldown: You must wait at least 3 minutes before returning to the general area where you died. Returning immediately is an NLR violation even if you claim to have "forgotten."
What NLR Does Not Apply To
- Dying of natural causes unrelated to a conflict (e.g. falling off a building accidentally)
- Information your character knew before the death — your character's general knowledge (like where the bank is) carries over, just not conflict-specific memories
- Admin kills / staff teleports — these don't trigger NLR
NLR in Police Situations
If you die during a police chase or raid, NLR applies. You cannot:
- Return to the scene of a raid while it's still active
- Tip off other players to go assist at your old location based on your death
- Return as police to re-assist an ongoing situation you died in
Common NLR Violations
- Getting killed in a mugging and immediately coming back to attack the mugger
- Dying in a base raid and spawning nearby to defend
- Dying to police and immediately returning to warn your associates
- Using your death location in OOC to broadcast who killed you
When in doubt: If you died, just move on and start fresh. RP is about the experience, not winning every encounter. Respawning and doing something completely different is totally fine.
Reporting NLR Violations
If someone returns to the scene of your death or retaliates immediately after dying, call staff using @ [message] in chat or use the report command. Try to have evidence (screenshots or video) if possible.
