Basic Laws & Society

EvoCity has a functioning in-character government with laws enforced by the police. Understanding how the law works will help you stay out of trouble — or break the right laws strategically.

Default Laws

By default the following things are illegal:

  • Assault and murder of other citizens
  • Drug manufacturing or possession of drugs
  • Carrying illegal weapons without a license
  • Trespassing in restricted areas
  • Theft and robbery

Mayor's Laws

The Mayor can create custom laws that change what is legal or illegal. Common examples:

  • Declaring certain weapons legal for citizens
  • Imposing curfews
  • Legalizing or banning specific activities
  • Issuing warrants for specific players or properties

Current laws are displayed in the government panel (F2 → Laws).

Arrests & Jail

If you commit a crime in front of police, or have an active warrant, you can be arrested. Arrested players are sent to jail for a set time period. During jail time you cannot move freely but time passes normally.

Wanted status: If you're wanted by police, a star icon appears on the HUD. Police can see your wanted status and will pursue you. You can pay your fine at the police station to clear it without going to jail (if the officer permits).

Self Defense

Citizens have the right to defend themselves if attacked. If someone shoots at you first, you may legally return fire. However, you must be able to prove the threat was genuine — preemptive strikes are not considered self defense.

Voting Out the Mayor

If the Mayor is abusing their power (setting 50% taxes, creating absurd laws), citizens can call for a vote to remove them. Use F2 → Government → Vote to Remove Mayor. A majority of connected players must agree.
