Joining the Server
Welcome to GmodPlayground! This guide will walk you through connecting for the first time and what to expect when you load in.
Requirements
- Garry's Mod — available on Steam
- Counter-Strike: Source — required for most textures and models (mount it in GMod addons menu)
- A stable internet connection
CS:S Textures: If you see pink and black checkerboard textures in-game, you're missing Counter-Strike: Source content. Mount it via the GMod main menu → Addons → Games.
How to Connect
There are three ways to join:
- Click the Join button on this page — it will launch GMod and connect automatically.
- Steam Server Browser — search for "GmodPlayground" in the server browser.
- Console — open the GMod console (press ~) and type:
connect 107.131.15.180:27015
First Load
The first time you connect, GMod will download custom content from our FastDL server. This includes custom sounds, models, and textures. Depending on your connection speed this may take a few minutes.
After downloading completes you'll see the loading screen — just wait for the map to finish loading and you'll spawn in automatically.
What Happens When You Spawn
- You'll spawn as a Citizen near the city centre.
- A welcome message will appear in chat.
- Press F4 to open the main menu and set up your character name.
- You'll have $0 cash to start — see Earning Your First Money to get started.
Read the rules first! New players are expected to read the server rules before playing. Rule violations result in bans regardless of experience.
